The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has raised the alarm about a growing number of phishing scams aimed at social media users. These scams involve hackers tricking people into sharing their One-Time Passwords (OTPs), which has led to an increase in accounts being hacked on platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp, etc.
The PTA emphasized that it will never contact individuals to ask for personal details, passwords, or OTPs. They advised everyone to avoid clicking on unfamiliar links or sharing sensitive information to protect themselves from these scams.
To help prevent these attacks, the PTA encouraged people to block or report suspicious numbers to their mobile phone operators or to contact the PTA directly. Complaints can be filed on the PTA website, through the PTA CMS mobile app, or by calling the PTA’s toll-free number.
In addition to contacting the PTA, users can also reach out to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and report financial fraud cases to the State Bank of Pakistan. This warning comes as many social media users have reported having their accounts hacked or facing financial fraud due to fake links and OTP-related scams.
